Join Inverloch Library for a film screening of 'EMU RUNNER' this NAIDOC week presented via streaming platform Kanopy. 'EMU RUNNER' is the story of Gem Daniels (Rhae-Kye Waites), a nine-year-old Indigenous girl, who lives in a remote Australian town. As she copes with her mother’s unexpected death, Gem finds solace in the company of a wild emu, unwittingly connecting with her mother’s traditional totem animal. 

2026 NAIDOC Theme: “50 Years of Deadly” 

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has celebrated the voices of both Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples. Each year, the themes of NAIDOC have called for truth, celebrated culture, and honoured resistance. The theme of 2026 marks a milestone for both the celebration of NAIDOC and the acknowledgement of First Nations cultures. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. It is also about the future. The next 50 years and the new generations growing up proud. The return of languages and the return of Country. The fight for justice continuing with new tools, new voices, and the same fire. 

We can all honour what came before by continuing this work this year and beyond.
